Sohan Dasgupta - International Law Scholar, Attorney, and Business Leader
Dr. Sohan Dasgupta is an attorney, scholar, and public servant whose career spans senior government leadership, complex litigation, international arbitration, global trade, and national security. His work has consistently engaged the intersection of law, public policy, and international economic affairs, addressing issues of substantial national and international significance.
Dr. Dasgupta has held senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he served as Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Trade and Economic Security. He also served as Special Counsel at the U.S. Department of Education. His experience encompasses complex litigation, investigations, regulatory matters, international trade, economic sanctions, export controls, foreign investment, and supply-chain security.
In 2025, Dr. Dasgupta served as political head of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, leading an organization of approximately 300 personnel with a budget of $5.8 billion. In this capacity, he brought a legal, institutional, and strategic perspective to economic statecraft.
Dr. Dasgupta has addressed parliaments and legislative bodies internationally on matters concerning the rule of law, national security, AI, international trade, and critical minerals. His academic qualifications include degrees from Columbia University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Berkeley Law. Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Dasgupta enjoys travel, cycling, and swimming. He has a particular appreciation for the music of Debussy and the works of the Impressionist painters Monet, Renoir, and Cézanne.
